Job Description

The Public Health Office currently employs over 100 staff members and serves as the central contact for all health-related matters in the Wiesbaden urban area. Our mission is to promote, enhance, and protect the health and well-being of the population at the local level.

The „Health Protection“ Department is deeply involved in identifying and monitoring communicable diseases and risk factors. We provide training and consultations to minimize infection risks for the general population and specific groups. Additionally, we offer supplementary vaccination services and campaigns. We also monitor environmental factors and climate change and their impacts on the citizens‘ health. Ensuring the safety of drinking water and hygiene are essential aspects of our department’s work. We work to improve crisis and pandemic planning for the City of Wiesbaden and establish the necessary organizational structures on behalf of the Public Health Office.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide medical advice and support to the department in the development and execution of tasks, including health protection, outbreak investigations, hygiene monitoring, monitoring of multi-resistant pathogens, measles protection law, drinking water safety, and environmental health protection, as well as planning vaccination services and campaigns.
  • Prepare, plan, and train for emergencies and crisis situations, and participate in disaster response.
  • Advise on commissioned vaccinations or supplementary vaccination services, including administering these vaccinations.
  • Develop and implement disease prevention measures.
  • Establish „new“ interdisciplinary topics and tasks, such as One Health, vector control, etc.
  • Participate in the on-call medical duty of the office.

Your Profile

  • Completed specialist medical training in a field related to the above tasks or a medical license.
  • Several years of professional experience in direct patient care.
  • Desirable additional experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Vaccination, epidemiology/public health, health economics, infectious diseases, emergency planning, and/or chronic diseases and preventive measures.
    • Administrative, logistical, and legal planning of (vaccination) campaigns.
    • Collaboration and coordination with other institutions and organizations.
  • Excellent German and English language skills, both spoken and written.
  • Assertiveness, a confident and reliable demeanor.
  • Resilience, the ability to stay calm and composed during busy periods, and the skill to handle conflict situations with a de-escalating and respectful approach.
  • Intercultural competencies, such as tolerance, knowledge and experience with various cultural backgrounds, and possibly foreign language skills.
  • Independent working style, organizational skills, and flexibility.
  • Willingness to work on weekends and public holidays.
  • Proof of measles immunity or willingness to be vaccinated, for those born after 1970.
